Dear Families,
We hope everyone is having a safe and healthy summer. It is my pleasure to welcome back new and returning families to a great year at PS 178! I am excited that you are part of our amazing learning community, where we all work together to support all students.
We have been working hard throughout the summer. Our teachers are planning and preparing for our students. Our custodians have spent the entire summer cleaning the building, and our parent coordinator has been registering new families.

For Students Who Ride the Bus
Please contact the Office of Pupil Transportation to verify your child’s bus stop and pickup time. Also, be sure to make arrangements to pick up your child at their designated bus stop. Bussing information is available in the NYC School Account.
LUNCH AND SNACK
Lunch - takes place in the cafeteria. The school provides hot and cold meal options along with a salad bar. Please use the School Food Feed Your Mind app to access daily menus. PS 178 is not a peanut-free school. If your child has any food allergies, please ensure to see the nurse as soon as possible.
Snack – all students have snacks during the day. Please send your child a small and healthy snack (fresh fruit, granola bars, pretzels, plain graham crackers, trail mix, rice crackers, fresh vegetables, applesauce, dried fruit, cheese, water, 100% fruit juice). The DOE prohibits the following items (Chips – Cheese doodles, Takis, potato chips, cakes, chewing gum, Gatorade, Prime, soda, and Energy drinks). Due to safety, glass bottles are also prohibited.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- If your child is ill, do not send your child to school. Instead, please notify the school that your child will not be in attendance (212)-567-0327.
- Parents/Guardians, if you are not picking up your child and are sending a relative or other adults, they must have identification and be listed on the blue emergency card. It is imperative that these emergency cards are thoroughly filled out and that there are active/working phone numbers of emergency contacts in the event that your child needs to be picked up by someone other than yourself. If they are not on the card, the parent/guardian must notify the office in writing, indicating who is picking up the student. Once again, we need your full support and cooperation during this procedure for the safety and well-being of your child.
- If your child needs to be picked up before the assigned dismissal time, you must notify the school in writing or via phone call (212-569-0327) to the main office before 12:00 pm.
- If your child usually takes the bus and will not be taking the bus on a specific day – you must notify the school in writing or via phone call to the main office before 12:00 pm. Otherwise, the child will be placed on the bus.
- During the first days of school, students will be given the following forms:
Blue Emergency Card, Lunch forms. Walking Trip permission, Media forms.
Please complete all forms, sign and return all forms to your child’s teacher the next day.
We look forward to working with you to ensure a safe and productive 2023-2024 school year. We can’t wait to see you all very soon!
Best,
Patricia Sanchez,
Principal
